Expressive Arts Therapy

Individuals & Groups | All Ages | In-person & Telehealth | Chapel Hill

Expressive Arts Therapy weaves together multiple creative modalities — visual art, movement, writing, music, and drama — as tools for healing and self-discovery. Unlike art therapy, which focuses on a single art form, expressive arts intentionally moves between modalities to meet you where your expression lives.

This approach reclaims our innate human right to creativity. You don't need any artistic skill or experience. The process itself is the therapy.

  • Find it hard to express emotions in words alone

  • Are working through complex or early trauma

  • Want to explore therapy outside the traditional model

This may be a good fit if you…

  • Are an artist, musician, writer, or creative person

  • Feel disconnected from your own sense of identity

  • Are neurodivergent and thrive with creative engagement

What a session might look like

Your clinician guides you through a creative prompt — drawing, movement, writing, or sound. You're never asked to produce something "good." The focus is on what comes up in the process. Afterwards, you and your clinician reflect on what emerged and what it might mean.
